Following the global trend and thanks to the initiative of students of the university college Hotel Escuela de los Andes Venezolanos, the Hotel Venetur Maremares de Lechería will implement in its facilities an agroecological project of green roofs.
Through this process , the organic cultivation of fruits, vegetables and vegetables will be given way, as explained by Óscar Pereira and Ricardo Rodríguez, representatives of the Hotel Environmental Plan; with this, in addition, it will be possible to cover a high percentage of the demand for these products that the establishment has.
"We want to produce the same amount of food that is consumed, without using chemical fertilizers and achieve that a much healthier meal is offered," said Ricardo Rodríguez.
This will be the first rooftop experience with greenhouses in the country. For now, the feasibility of the project is being studied for its subsequent application.
According to Obdulio Torres, food and beverage manager of the hotel, this idea would make it possible to obtain fresh products for cooking and promised the sponsorship so that the students can bring this initiative to a successful conclusion.
With this ecological proposal it is intended to cover the 13 establishments of the aforementioned hotel chain. To this end, training will be carried out by the students of the university for the hotel workers, in this way it will be possible to guarantee the sustainability and durability of this proposal.
