During the annual meeting of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), researcher Kate Kirsch of the University of Houston presented a study on the utensils and elements of hotels that carry greater foci of bacteria.
At the top of the list of the most polluted are the remote control of the television and the cleaning utensils that are transported in cars from room to room.
The switch of the lamps located on the bedside table is another of the elements that evidenced great focus of bacteria, as well as the toilet and the sink.
Contrary to this, the head of the bed, the curtain rods and the handle of the bathroom doors were found to be the least dirty. According to the researchers, it has not yet been established that the bacteria they detected are generators of diseases but they are a reliable indicator of the cleanliness of the place.
The researcher assures that, on many occasions, the vast majority of hotel establishments make a visual verification of the cleanliness and this is not totally effective. He assures that there is no standardization in the hotel industry on the cleaning methods and protocols to follow, without realizing that this is a key factor among guests to choose a hotel.
