In order to calculate the carbon footprint they emit and communicate this information to their users, a total of 24 large hotel chains in the global context have joined in the adoption, integration and launch of a standardized system that makes this goal possible.
The system has been called the Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative (HCMI 1.0) and for its launch it has had the collaboration of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and the International Tourism Partnership (ITP).
Corporate guests around the world are increasingly interested in measuring the impact on the environment of their trips, with this new tool users can access a unified system regardless of the destination in which they are.
The testing process was carried out in different hotels of the participating chains, of different ranges, sizes and categories. The process was reviewed by the consulting firm KPMG and the World Resources Institute.
It is expected that this new resource will be implemented in most establishments in about two years and, with it, give rise to new research that allows to improve processes, products and services of the company and, consequently, protect the environment in the best way.
The chains that are part of this initiative are Accor Hotels, Beijing Tourism Group, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, Diamond Resorts International, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Hilton Worldwide, Hong Kong & Shanghai Hotels, Hyatt Corporation, InterContinental Hotels Group, Jumeirah Group, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Marriott International Inc, Meliá Hotels International, MGM Resorts International, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, Orient-Express Hotels, Pan Pacific Hotel Group, Premier Inn - Whitbread Group, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, The Red Carnation Hotel Collection, Wyndham Worldwide y TUI AG.
