On the occasion of the celebration of World Tourism Day, the Spanish version of Hotel Energy Solutions (HES), an online tool developed by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), was launched, which allows hotels to calculate their energy consumption and seek more sustainable energy options. The 2012 edition of World Tourism Day had as its central theme "Tourism and energy sustainability".
Now Spanish-speaking hoteliers will be able to assess the energy consumption of their establishments while discovering appropriate technologies and savings strategies, cutting both carbon emissions and economic expenses.
According to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, during the launch, "there are many, in the tourism sector, who have shown leadership in the development and application of clean energy solutions, with regions that have reduced their energy consumption and carbon emissions by up to 40% thanks to initiatives such as the Energy Solutions for Hotels tools."
UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai, said that thousands of hoteliers have already had access to the English version of this free tool, saving money and mitigating its environmental impact. "With its launch in Spanish, thousands more hoteliers now have the same opportunity and responsibility to lower their carbon emissions."
