The Green Terraces Law was definitively approved by the Buenos Aires Legislature as a method to combat global warming.
This initiative, which was approved on second reading, modifies the Buenos Aires Building Code and allows buildings to incorporate plant species on their terraces.
According to the aforementioned Law, the properties that implement this practice that is part of the green and eco-friendly trend, will have multiple benefits, including a reduction in the amount of public Lighting, Sweeping and Cleaning.
The initiative that was advanced by the late official Gerardo Ingaramo, was taken up by Fernando De Andreis, head of the Pro bloc in the legislature. De Andreis assures that "green roofs contribute to the reduction of global warming and noise pollution. In addition, they improve air and water quality and help increase oxygen production."
The project specifies that the idea is to cover the roofs with plant species, framing this action in the process of sustainable development carried out by the local government, since green roofs allow to improve air and water quality and achieve more harmonious cities.
The initiative, previously approved in first reading and in public hearing, postulates to cover the roofs with plant species, an action that is part of the process of "sustainable development", since it allows to reduce the waterproofing of the soils, as well as to improve the quality of the air and water and make the cities more "harmonious".
De Andreis stressed that in order to encourage neighbors to build green terraces, the bill proposes certain benefits to be applied in new works and existing buildings.
