Pigeons have become a headache for building managers, especially those of a historical nature, which due to their architecture and materials are preferred by this type of bird.
The problems begin when the property is colonized by the animals in question. According to a statement issued by the pest control company, Rentokil, "these birds generate dirt, bacteria, corrosion and erosion of the stone, obstruction of gutters, spread of diseases and the appearance of other insect pests. In short, a great threat to the properties that several cities".
The company points out that the buildings suffer a progressive deterioration due to the settlements of pigeons to such an extent that they could even end them.
As experts explain, pigeon droppings litter facades and roofs, corroding limestone and metal by being composed of highly corrosive chemicals that severely wear down the surfaces where they land.
The advice of Jacinto Díez, marketing director of the company, is to take action at the first signs of the bird's appearance. For the professional, it is better to employ preventive systems, which do not harm animals, such as nets, tensioned cables, spikes and electrostatic lines.
