The first green roof of Caracas was recently inaugurated, it is the roof of the Eugenio Montejo room, of the Los Palos Grandes Library, which changed the concrete for plants that will give oxygen to the city. The initiative will save energy consumption by 30%.
This initiative, carried out by the Mayor's Office of Chacao, has become the first in the country in the case of public buildings.
According to Emilio Graterón, mayor of that town, this is a proposal that has effects that go beyond the ecological, also improves the coexistence of the neighbors by generating a meeting place where everyone appropriates the public space, allows energy savings by up to 30% and decreases the temperature of the building and adjacent residences.
The official added that it is intended to "replicate it in other buildings in the municipality. For this we will offer advice and we will also donate green boxes, so that the neighbors themselves sow and cultivate on their terraces, because a high cost is not needed to carry out this intervention. "
According to Diana López, director of Culture of the municipality, this new facility is the birthday gift of the toy library, which this year celebrates its second anniversary educating and recreating children under 12 years old.
"We want to send an ecological and integration message of the city. It's about making life greener and planting our own garden inside the house," said the director.
