Continuing with the expansion plan of its Holiday Innbrand, the Intercontinental hotel group (IHG) announces the opening of three new hotels in the coffee country. Barranquilla, Bogotá and Cartagena will be the headquarters of the buildings belonging to Grupo Contempo S.A, partners of IHG since 2008.
The three new branches will add 450 rooms to IHG's current portfolio in Colombia, which currently encompasses eight hotels and 1,910 rooms. Similarly, they will be added to the four Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express properties that this hotel group has in the country.
Joel Eisemann, IHG's director general of development for the Americas, said that thanks to "a growing economy and an expanding middle class, we expect strong demand for limited-service hotels in the country."
The Bogotá hotel will be seven floors and 100 rooms and will be located in the heart of the financial district of the Colombian capital; for its part, the Holiday Inn Express Cartagena will have 200 rooms and will be located in Bocagrande, one of the most important tourist places in the city.
Finally, the Barranquilla branch will have 18 floors and 150 rooms and will be located next to the Buenavista shopping center, in one of the most exclusive areas of the city.
The opening of the new establishments is scheduled for 2014 and will mean the relaunch of Holiday Inn, whose cost of US $ 1,000 million represents the largest project in its history.
