The French hotel chain, Accor, invested US$ 19.9 million in a new property in the city of Medellin, Colombia, which began operating this week under the Ibis brand.
According to Steven Daines, director of operations of the Ibis chain in Latin America, this initiative was born because of the importance of Medellín within the national tourism panorama.
"Medellín is the second most populated city in Colombia and one of the most important in the country, which has justified the need to have a hotel of these characteristics in that city. Our intention is to bring to Medellín the best quality, service and price ratio in the region," he said.
To this is added the investment made in 2010 of US$ 15.8 million for the opening of the 216-room hotel, Ibis Bogotá Museo. In addition, Accor announced that it will allocate another US$15 million in a new property in a destination yet to be defined in the coffee country.
In total, the company would invest about US$51 million in Colombia, between the two brands it manages in this country, Ibis and Sofitel.
