Guatemala. The Association of Small Hotels of Guatemala (Asopehgua) announced in recent days its plans to look for alternatives that allow them to reduce the levels of electricity consumption of their properties.
As explained by Ana Mercedes de Lemke, president of the Association, to local media, electricity consumption can represent up to 40% of the total expenditure of hotels due to the constant use of air conditioning or heating, hot water and lighting.
Therefore, hotels are exploring alternatives such as the use of solar energy and the use of gas. In the case of small and medium-sized hotels, it is possible to supply a large percentage of the electricity demand with the use of solar thermal energy to heat water and solar photovoltaic energy for electricity supply.
