Peru. Two new five-star hotels will be built in the city of Arequipa this year with an investment of more than US$10 million.
The hotels will be located in colonial mansions in the historic center of Arequipa that have been previously selected to make these projects a reality.
Alfredo Venero, manager of Foreign Trade and Tourism of the Regional Government of Arequipa, indicated that the hotel chains have already initiated the pertinent procedures before the Regional Directorate of Culture and the sub-management of the historic center, in order to obtain the relevant authorizations that allow them to specify the hotel proposals.
The official stressed the importance that the procedures to be followed are demanding because the historic center of Arequipa was declared a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco.
He also announced that these international companies will invest more than US$10 million in the construction and equipment of lodging centers, which will boost the local economy and offer direct and indirect jobs.
