International. The UK institution Building Research Establishment (BRE) has announced the winners of its 2019 BREEAM Awards at a gala event held last night at the London Hilton Bankside Hotel, where a building from Cuba was selected as a representative by Las Americas.
At an annual event for built environment professionals, the awards recognize excellence in the field of sustainable construction. This year's gala event was organised by one of the BBC's top correspondents, David Shukman.
The winners include the most innovative and sustainable BREEAM-rated buildings of the past 12 months from the UK and countries as far away and diverse as Cuba, Romania and Norway and, for the first time, China and Kazakhstan. The awards also recognise the high achievements of BREEAM's advisors and socially responsible investment through an ongoing partnership with GRESB, which is now in its second year.
The BREEAM Awards cover a variety of sectors including residential, retail, industrial, education and healthcare, as well as types of projects such as new construction, refurbishment and use.
