Tips for cleaning revolving doors and security entrances

International. Cleaning and disinfecting a full-height tourniquet or safety revolving door may not have been at the top of your to-do list. However, as we face global pandemics and annual flu seasons, it's important to address cleaning up something hundreds of thousands of hands touch every day: their entrances.

What happens if I use the wrong cleaning agent?
Not all entrances have the same finishes. Therefore, each type of surface on your doors and/or turnstiles has an appropriate cleaning method, both to disinfect them from staff and guests, and to maintain the finish in the long term. Why is it so critical to use the right cleaning agents at your entrance? Simply put, using the wrong one can permanently damage the finish of your door or turnstile, tarnishing your investment.

Recommended cleaning methods
The table below describes the recommended cleaning methods for your entries. Note that a single input can have multiple types of surfaces and may require more than one cleaning method.

Board.

Type of Surfaces Cleaning Method
Crystal Windex Multi-Surface Disinfectant Cleaner
Powder coating Alcohol-based cleaners (nothing with acid-based ingredients) and products that suggest they are "suitable for regular surfaces and painted surfaces)"
Painting Hot water with soap or isopropyl alcohol (70% or more) Note: painted parts should be cured for 7 days or more before being cleaned with an alcohol-based solution
Stainless steel Alcohol-based cleaners
Polycarbonate (often the brand name Lexan®) Mild soap and warm water with a soft cloth. Never use sharp tools to remove duct tape or stickers, as this will damage the layer. Click here for more details on caring for your polycarbonate.
Bullet resistant glass (BR) 99% isopropyl alcohol or clean water with a soft cloth. Never use sharp tools to remove duct tape or stickers, as this will damage the layer. Click here for more details on taking care of your BR finish.

It is recommended that you clean your entrance weekly, however, during pandemics and cold and flu seasons, a quick cleaning every day will reduce cross-contamination and ensure the safety of everyone who comes into contact with your entrances.
