International. Under the slogan: "Making a real difference", IFMA announced that this May 10, 2023 has been officially proclaimed as the World Facility Management Day.
For this day, the main associations in Latin America and the world will prepare a series of activities that seek to recognize the work of the Facility Manager. See here the list of activities.
"Many of you know that a changing paradigm has accelerated dramatically due to a renewed focus on key emerging FM issues. Specifically, sustainability, resilience and corporate responsibility are now center stage for leaders around the world. These issues have a significant impact on corporate decision-making, and the Facilities Manager is at a crossroads where everyone converges," commented John Carrillo CFM, IFMA Board Member.
"Thank you FM for "Making a real difference". Their dedication has allowed us to emerge from the pandemic and will lead us to a brighter tomorrow."
This announcement was signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. IFMA contacted the governor's office in March to request a proclamation formally acknowledging FM's responsibility for the functionality, safety and sustainability of the built environment, and publicly supporting the observance of the day designed to celebrate and raise awareness of the contributions of the FM community around the world.
Governor Abbott's statement states, "Recognizing that facilities management makes the world a better place, professional organizations like the International Facility Management Association set standards of excellence, provide opportunities for continuing education, and celebrate the many contributions facilities management professionals make to our society."
He added that "every year, a day is set aside to shed light on our Facility Management professionals. Today and in the future, I encourage all Texans to learn more about this critical profession and express their appreciation for those who dedicate themselves to it. Our facilities management professionals ensure safety and security in the present while paving the way for an even brighter future and therefore represent the best of the Lone Star State."
The proclamation also recognizes the essential duties performed by FMs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including ensuring that people return to the safest buildings possible:
"During a once-in-a-century public health crisis, these dedicated individuals facilitated the gradual reopening of businesses and public spaces and, in doing so, paved the way for a collective return to normalcy. Rarely does a particular profession affect the fullness of public life, but facilities management is essential for any business, government entity, or organization operating within the built environment."
