Since March 2010, Starwood Hotels & Resorts has had a new vice president, who has worked with the hotel chain since 2003.Vasant Prabhu, who will continue to be Starwood's Chief Financial Officer, has been assigned to this new role due to his contribution and commitment to the company.
Vasant, who is an engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai and a Master in Management and Finance from the University of Chicago, has vast administrative experience. Prior to joining the chain, he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer at food company Safeway Inc, as well as having worked at The McGraw Hill and Pepsi.
Starwood Chairman and CEO Frits van Paasschen said Vasant's leadership and strategic vision stood out in 2009 when the chain faced the toughest year because of the Great Depression. "Their efforts and collaboration ensured not only that the group survived the crisis, but also came out stronger, with our financial situation in order and well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities we expect to arise," he said.
