Colombia. Bogotá will be the epicenter of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, which will bring together 60 experts from more than 13 countries, including high-level representatives of international and national entities and recognized academics, who will discuss experiences and good practices in the field of transforming sustainable cities, transport and tourism.
These high-level dialogues are taking place within the framework of the second anniversary of the 'Rio+20 Summit'.
In the company of Lu Haifeng, Secretary General of the Global Forum for Human Settlements, Mara Murillo, Deputy Regional Director of the Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean, UNEP, Edgar Cataño, Director of the Colombia UN Habitat Programme, and the Director of the Urban Development Institute, IDU, William Camargo, Mayor Gustavo Petro signed a memorandum of understanding with members of the United Nations (UN) and the United Nations Environment Programme ( UNEP).
"Our great flag is the POT, (Territorial Planning Plan) that seeks to free up spaces to water, preventing floods and droughts. In terms of transport, Bogotá has wanted to have a mobility that does not affect the environment, using electric energy and alternative transport such as the bicycle, reducing the serious effects of transport powered by fossil fuel, "said the mayor.
He added that this international event will open the internal discussion to mitigate and adapt the city to climate change.
