SMEs: What is your Achilles heel in security?

Latin America. Many SMBs fail to protect their mobile devices, according to a Nielsen study for Panda Security and Nielsen. They neglect security on tablets and smartphones by not identifying any source of danger in them at a time when companies are a priority target for cybercriminals.

A Nielsen study for Panda Security entitled "State of Protection in SMEs" shows  the reality of small and medium-sized companies in terms of computer security. To do this, he has interviewed 151 companies, of which 73 have between 25 and 100 computers and 78 have more than 101 computers.

According to their conclusions, 91% of the companies interviewed have fixed computers, with a slight difference between medium-sized companies (96%) and small ones (86%). Nor are there any big differences when we talk about smartphones. 90% of the smallest companies have these mobile devices compared to 92% of the largest ones.

The greatest distance of equipment is in the field of tablets. 55% of companies with up to 100 computers recognize having a tablet for professional use, compared to 74% of companies larger than 101 computers.

The study reveals that the 151 companies interviewed are aware of the need to protect their fixed and portable equipment. What's more, they ensure that 100% of the equipment of this type is protected, either with paid or free solutions.

However, these levels of protection are not observed in tablets and laptops. At this point, the report points out that only 25% of the tablets they have, do not have security software and the percentage is even higher if we talk about smartphones, 35%.

According to Panda, the results show that companies are aware of the risks they face if they do not protect their computers, but neglect security on tablets and smartphones by not identifying any source of danger in them.
