Latin America. The Protocol of Guidelines for Sustainable Urbanism (Plus), an initiative of the Colombian Council for Sustainable Construction (CCCS), promotes higher levels of sustainability throughout the design process and is aimed at urban planners and designers.
The Plus, as a reference document, guides policymakers, planners and designers on the values that urban spaces in Colombia should have.
The tool supports the creation and design of prosperous and sustainable places, which generate greater well-being through good quality governance, planning and design.
The Plus finds application both in new urban projects and in interventions in the consolidated city, through urban regeneration actions or comprehensive neighborhood improvement.
Bogotá, Wednesday, July 6, 2016. As of today, the Protocol of Sustainable Urbanism Guidelines (Plus) is available for application in urban projects of any scale. The Plus is an initiative of the Colombian Council for Sustainable Construction (CCCS) to promote the inclusion of sustainability premises in all areas of the built environment, both in new urban projects and in interventions in the consolidated city, through urban regeneration or comprehensive neighborhood improvement actions.
The main objective of the Protocol of Guidelines for Sustainable Urbanism (Plus) is to support the creation and design of prosperous and sustainable places, which generate well-being through governance, planning and design of good quality. The Plus is a tool to help urban planners and designers throughout the design process, from the selection of the place (property) to the design of public space and urban furniture, so that each intervention generates positive impacts on the environment and people.
"This Protocol of Guidelines for Sustainable Urbanism was conceived to expand the scope of the best practices of sustainable construction to urban environments, and especially as a result of the formulation of several housing macroprojects promoted by the national government," said Cristina Gamboa, Executive Director of this association.
"This concrete guide is a frame of reference that identifies the positive and sustainable values that any urban space in our country should have," Gamboa added.
The Plus presents the values that should be present in sustainable urban environments. As is known, urban interventions must respond in the most appropriate way to the climatic, cultural and spatial particularities of a specific place. For this reason, the PLUS identifies what these values are and invites the industry to translate them into the built environment, since the specific solutions depend on each project.
