International. The Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero (ITH) has developed through an agreement signed with the Secretary of State for Tourism in Spain, the design and implementation of a tourism sustainability model for the hotel sector that includes a consulting service for interested establishments.
The first results of the implementation of this model have been presented in a conference aimed at hoteliers held this Wednesday, November 16 in the Anaya Room of the NH Palacio de los Castellanos Hotel in Salamanca.
With this model, both entities want to promote the integration of sustainable strategies in the hotel business, betting on a socially and environmentally committed model, which includes efficient energy management that in turn affects the increase of competitiveness.
In accordance with the agreement signed by the ITH and the Secretary of State for Tourism, endowed with 100,000 euros and launched by the General Subdirectorate of Tourism Development and Sustainability, the new audit model analyzes variables of energy efficiency (systems A.C.S., lighting, air conditioning, etc.), water use (dispensers, supply systems, purification systems), waste management (reuse), thermal envelope systems and other sustainability variables (limiting the impact on the environment, accessibility, corporate social responsibility policy and actions, etc.).
With the aim of supporting the hotelier, an online platform has been developed where hotels can self-evaluate according to the requirements of the proposed model, so that they can know the shortcomings they have and, through an advisory service, direct their business towards sustainability.
