Power outages damage home electrical equipment

Argentina. The seasons of high temperatures and power outages are approaching. Expensive electronic equipment must be protected to prevent it from burning or damage. For Marco Novelli, Account & Marketing Manager at Polaris, UPSs become a safe and economical option.

In its maximum temperature peaks during the summer and winter is when the greatest number of power cuts occur, not only in the City of Buenos Aires, but also in the interior of the country, where many times the situations are even more complex.

Many homes in Argentina have their living room armed with a series of equipment that works with electric current: home theater, LCD, video game console, among others. They have invested a lot of money and time in acquiring it, and many times a power outage or a return on service, ends up burning these equipment that have just been purchased or are still being paid in installments. And the truth is that the warranty does not cover these cases and, many times, the repair or replacement of the damaged part has almost the same cost as the product as a whole.

In this context, according to Marco Novelli, Account & Marketing Manager at Polaris, a good alternative is to have your own insurance. Not safe for damage, imperfections or theft, but a small device that for very little cost allows you to connect the equipment and be protected against situations of power outages. "I mean a UPS, small devices that have a battery, which when the light is cut off begin to work, avoiding the power cut to the device," he explained. "The goal is not to continue watching TV, using the home theater or the game console indefinitely, but to have enough autonomy to turn them off correctly, unplug them and avoid the problems of the surprise cut of the supply and its equal return," he added.

The executive assured that with this action you will have the tranquility and security that the products purchased, which have cost so much, are protected. "Sometimes it is not usually paid enough attention, but the truth is that in recent years it is increasingly common that in periods of strong storms or high temperatures many devices are disused by the power cut," he said.

One caveat, which is important to note, is that for these cases stabilizers are not suitable. For example, if the game console is being used and the power goes out, the disc keeps spinning and working, and eventually breaks. This on both consoles and computers. On the other hand, with a battery that does not happen, because it offers the autonomy of between 7 and 8 minutes to turn off the equipment correctly. "The stabilizer protects us from very little, the UPS from almost everything," he said.

Investment Level:

  • The upS battery, depending on the number of cuts, is replaced every 4 years or so. Its cost is about 40% of the value of the UPS.
  • Changing the battery of these devices is practically like changing the battery to a remote control.
